About The Tangled Times
Meet Wendy
Founder and Editor

Our world is tangled. I’m here to untangle it for you.
Hi there! I’m Wendy, an independent journalist with a knack for digging into complicated topics and making them easier to understand.
That’s why I created this newsroom-meets-blog that aims to unpack systems, policies and complex issues that are often confusing and inaccessible for the people trying to navigate them. Let’s figure out how things work so you can make them work for you.
Making sense of the nonsensical requires patience, curiosity, in-depth research and a willingness to ask questions. That’s where I come in.
Why Am I Doing This?
I’ve spent most of my career in public relations, but a journalism blog has been tapping on my shoulder. Actually it’s been yelling in my ear. I can no longer ignore the gut feeling. And my friends are annoyed with my tendency to be a devil’s advocate. So it’s time to channel that skill into something useful.
Objective clarity is hard to find in an information-saturated world. So I’m here to help. I’ve spent more than two decades working as a public relations editor, writer and strategist. Much of that time was spent breaking down complicated government speak, legalese or in-the-weeds information so that people can actually understand it.
As a reader, you’ll gain:
- Understanding instead of confusion.
- Confidence instead of intimidation.
- Next steps instead of not knowing where to start.
A former colleague used to describe me as “a dog with a bone” in my pursuits for information. I’m not sure I love that comparison, but I appreciate the sentiment. And I’m sharing that story to stress my tendencies to be tenacious and persistent. If you’re looking for credentials, I have a bachelor’s in journalism and a master’s in strategic communications.
I’ve also struggled to understand more than my fair share of complicated systems, which is why I have a topic on navigating healthcare. Systems don’t come with instructions, and I want to provide the clarity you need to move forward with confidence.
A Bit More About Me
When I’m not planning communications or writing blog posts, you’ll find me mountain biking, reading the news, chasing good conversation or trying out the latest restaurant or recipe.
Thanks for stopping by. If you believe objective truth still matters you’re in the right place.
Welcome to The Tangled Times. Let’s make sense of this, together.
